Come to FilCom’s 10th Anniversary Open House on June 15
Come to our 10th Anniversary Open House on Friday, June 15, starting at 4:00 p.m, and tour the largest Filipino center in the U.S. Community organizations have been helping get FilCom ready for you. The formal program will run from 5:00 to 10:00 p.m. Filcom’s resident Banda Kawayan will play traditional folk music on bamboo instruments and the Himig ng Indakchoral group will serenade our guests. Volunteers, donors and supporters who worked hard to make the FilCom a reality will be recognized and honored.
For five Saturdays this summer, 25 elementary school-age children will be learning Pilipino, dancing tinikling, mixing and eating halo halo, and more at Filipino for Kids, now in its seventh year at FilCom. Filipino for Kids is designed to provide children of ALL ethnic backgrounds an opportunity to learn about the rich Philippine culture and heritage. The program will run from June 16 to July 14.
The 20th Annual Filipino Fiesta was a great success to the Filipino Community in Hawaii. It was held last Saturday, May 5, 2012. The theme was Pagdiriwang at Pasasalamat – “Celebration and Thanks.” It featured two colorful events: the Parade from Fort DeRussy to Kapiolani Park followed by the Fiesta at the Kapiolani Park.
To signal the next chapter of our history, we have a new logo and website, symbolizing our movement forward to a bright and dynamic future. The FilCom Wave logo, reflects the close connection, the rich history, and the special relationship between Hawaii and the Philippines.
Ocean waves also symbolize strength. The merging wave symbolizes unity and the importance of coming together so all of us can move forward.

Since stepping into the very big shoes of Toy Arre, FilCom’s leader for the last seven years until he retired last March, I have been privileged to meet with the many people and organizations that have been part FilCom during its first 10 years. As we initiate our 10th anniversary initiatives, we ask for your continued support.
