Mindanaoans of Hawaii, Inc.
The Mindanaoans of Hawaii was founded on April 20, 1997, for the purposes of developing closer ties and cooperation among the people of Mindanao here in Hawaii and to render mutual assistance to its members especially those whose families just arrived in Hawaii. Its mission is to foster and develop a better understanding of the various cultures, heritage and customs of the people of Mindanao.
Fred Luab is the founder and first President of the Mindanoans of Hawaii, and the principal members of his office were some names that are or were familiar to many of the Mindanao people in Hawaii such as — Jun Colmenares, Jose Apolinario, Allan Panci-Panci, Robert Freeman and Bobby Almagro. A few years ago, Mindanaoans of Hawaii were very active in their civic duties and participates in most of the activities of the Filipino community.
Mindanaoans of Hawaii may not be as active as before, but their presence is still evident in the events of the Congress of the Visayans or COVO, especially during the Filipino Fiesta & Parade at Kapiolani Park. Its members are busy, some juggling as many as three jobs but they still come thru with their commitment to help when asked.
Marilyn Silva is the current President of Mindanaoans of Hawaii and as President she always sees to it that the organization is engaged in various community events.
